Pruning vines, helpful friends and great wine

It’s been a hectic couple of weeks. When I say that I mean more hectic than normal. Anna has completed her third year hosting the 100% NZ Bacon Awards and the vineyard does not wait for anyone.
We are way behind on the pruning front. Our contractor overcommitted and is not going to be able to complete our job. A real bummer, but we have some casual staff on board and are now frantically trying to finish the job before bud burst (when the New Year’s growth begins to grow). We have about 100 rows to tie down on to the fruiting wire and 60 rows to remove last year’s dead wood. This may not sound a lot, but I spent a whole day removing dead wood from one and a half rows. It is the type of job you need at least 6 people working side by side so it looks like you are making decent progress. I truly believe in the power of people working together drawing energy from each other. We’ll get there though (fingers crossed)
Our close friends in Wellington (O&J) have been a real inspiration in the last week). They have listened to all our stresses and provided meaningful help, motivation and friendship. It can be pretty lonely running a small business (no government bail outs here), so it was really helpful getting objective, practical advice from great mates.
We are now embarking on a sales programme into the Wellington region. We have pre-GST rise prices available until 30 September that are second to none in terms of value for money. Check out The Corner Store for more info, or email us and we’ll flick you a full price list.
Keep smiling.
